freckles make me strong.

I live in Seattle. These are things that catch my attention, pique my interest and/or make me want to pass notes in class like a 7th grader

Twinkies versus Oatmeal Cream Pies

  • Me: Did you hear about Hostess?
  • Jermaine: But, I mean, have people been eatin' Hostess like they should? Little Debbie's been stepping her game up for years.

I have logged a lot of hours in the garden this past year and things are shaping up. It is spring at last so let the Miss Rumphius Project: Year Two commence.

On Sunday, in honor of my “try to become a runner” anniversary I ran my first 5K. It has been a year since I started on this couch to 5K adventure. There have been a lot of lulls in motivation, weeks of gains and weeks of losses. I am proud to say that in the end I conquered that beast of a 5K that so many people call a “fun run”. I ran the whole thing, start to finish which is a success in and of itself. Not only that I managed a time of 34:14, which is my fastest yet. I would like to give a shout out to all my friends for their support on this mission. I would especially like to thank Justin, who sent a lot of motivational text messages during the training days. To Jo, for giving me a hard time so that every time I turn a corner and am doubting myself I hear his chiding in my head going, “Come on!” in his unmistakable french accent. To Jermaine, for running each step with me on race day and making me laugh at mile two when we were dragging and he exclaimed, “Lord, give me the strength”, bless his heart. And finally to every pop princess and boy band that filled my head with upbeat bubble gum music through the rain and the pain. On to the next 5K!
