I live in Seattle. These are things that catch my attention, pique my interest and/or make me want to pass notes in class like a 7th grader

This National Climatic Data Center may shows just how hot it’s been. Every red dot is on a place where a record high daily temperature was broken during June.

This is the most accurate thing I’ve seen on Portlandia. Maybe.
People don’t drive there; they wait their turn.
I went to see The Cat Empire last night at Neumos. The musicianship and the energy was incredible. Every song they played was an extended version highlighting a different instrument or member of the band. They are headed into the studio soon to record a new album and I can hardly wait.
If you ever have a chance to see them live, do it! You will not regret it.

Seattle’s vision of an urban food oasis is going forward. A seven-acre plot of land in the city’s Beacon Hill neighborhood will be planted with hundreds of different kinds of edibles: walnut and chestnut trees; blueberry and raspberry bushes; fruit trees, including apples and pears; exotics like pineapple, yuzu citrus, guava, persimmons, honeyberries, and lingonberries; herbs; and more. All will be available for public plucking to anyone who wanders into the city’s first food forest.
This is an incredible idea. I am so exicted to be close enough to enjoy it.

It has been a week of wins for gay rights: my home state of Washington has passed marriage equality in both the house and the senate, Proposition 8 was deemed unconstitutional by the 9th district Court of Appeals and a discriminatory amendment to the state constitution being introduced in New Mexico was squashed even before it hit the floor.
So often there are more setbacks than success in this struggle. Let us take a moment to appreciate and enjoy these victories.

You know how people joke that gay weddings will save the economy? That’s becoming less of a joke every day.
The Williams Institute released a report Friday showing that legalizing marriage equality in Washington would add $88 million to the state’s economy in the first three years. The numbers are based on calculations of average wedding expenditures and consider the amount of money that would potentially be spent on wedding arrangements and tourism.
Why aren’t more people paying attention to this? For those who don’t see equality as a good enough reason, doesn’t this kind of seal the deal?
